When I wanted to call my best friend at his new job but was afraid that his employer may not like him getting persoanl calls, I would say in my deepest, most officious businesslike voice, “Mr. Smith, please” Finally he told me that his receptionist told him, “Tell your friend not to sound so official when he calls. I’m just the receptionist.”
