The view as head fish is always much better than tail fish. What’s the saying? If you’re not lead dog, then the view never changes (or something like that).
When flying formation it is critical to issue the correct command.
If he wanted to stay in front, he should have had them counter-march.
I can totally relate. Nothing ever seems to go the way you plan them in your head….
