There is a difference between “crowd control” and “riot control”. Using the right tools in the right situations is something overlooked in Oakland, but it isn’t the first time.

Do hope Olsen recovers fully from the injury. Apparently a number of his fellow soldiers were wearing fatigues, which means maybe folks need to think about the fact that those dedicated to defending their country may do so in different venues?

Very Nice post by all – (so far) And this is worth repeating “…those dedicated to defending their country may do so in different venues”. Thanks Dtroutma.

Is Scott a woman? Not that it matters….just wondering if Scott is a hero or a heroine?

Tell the whole story. The police were being pelted by bottles urine, Rocks & other stuff. They were defending themselves & trying to stop the attacks.

Scott volunteered to serve his country to protect the right to freely assemble only to have that right violated when he returned.

Don’t be too quick to blame the cops. There is always more to these stories than we know.

Who exactly threw the rock? And is this same crowd that interfered with business the other day?

Gee People! It’s a bad situation and your broad brush assumptions make it worse. There are always a few bad apples in every bunch… (Protestors and Cops)… These people were evicted from the right of freedom of assembly… “Protesters … were blocked by police”… * And people not in protective gear were seriosly injured!

Dear Mr Danzinger, Please correct your piece to reflect the facts of where Mr Olsen was standing when he was fired upon by the Police. He was front and center with another individual in uniform, he was not collateral damage. Thank you and Mr. Olsen.

Why is it every time Gray Hares makes any comment, I can be 100% sure that the allegation is shockingly obviously false.

You’re telling only half of the story, Jeffrey. USA Today and MSN were both reporting that protesters were throwing things at police, and police responded by firing tear gas…nothing out of the ordinary considering the immediate situation. I have little doubt that what happened to Mr. Olsen was an accident and nothing more, yet these protesters are doing their best to make it look like it was intentional.

Shocker! I guess I need to withdraw a premature post about a lack of government accountability… Wow – A formal investigation… Whoda thunk it…?http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/nov/01/occupy-oakland-police-scott-olsen?newsfeed=true
