Nasty spitting spider! Maybe Anansi would be a tasty little protein alternative to your eternal sucking on bamboo, Bi-Polar Bear! —Although I know you’re too much of a nice guy to do anything like that….
I don’t want to make trouble, I love this strip…..maybe it’s just me (I am friends with at least 3 people who have this disorder), but making light of Bipolar Disorder and Manic Depression really may not be the most politically correct thing to do.
I’m Bipolar, and happen to really love BiPolar Bear. He reminds me that no matter how ugly the ups and downs can be, there is always balance. No mood swing lasts forever. BiPolar Bear is often a bright spot in an otherwise dark day. I would hate to see an end to BiPolar Bear strips.
RE: “… making light of Bipolar Disorder and Manic Depression”. I was under the impression that it’s OK for people with say, one eye, to make optical jokes or someone with no legs to make amputee jokes. Maybe so, maybe not. I never ever mean to offend anyone. But don’t worry, Bi-Polar bear is here to stay.
The weather doesn’t seem that cold in the strip. One time on a very cold winter day, I saw two pigeons on the sidewalk each standing on one leg with their feathers puffed out as much as they could puff, trying to endure the cold weather as far as they could. I probably could have grabbed them, and they would have been greatful for the warmth, but I didn’t have the heart.
@Night-Gaunt49:The Right Wing never “took over” Political Correctness – they invented the concept as an insulting accusation to hurl at anyone who objected to racist/sexist/etc insults.

I never got the impression that any disorders were made light of in any way.B.P.Bear stumbled into that one, however.:-)

Unfortunately, Anansi is a web-building spider. Were she a roamin’ spider, she could use the Latin for “to spit”: spitto, spittere, ach tui, splattus.

I didn’t know that. Was that on an episode of the show? If so, which season? Thanks.
