Im debating whether to get my hair done this week or next.
The better word is "deciding"
are you really having a "debate"?
yes. My opposing sides fight like democrats and republicans.
@Andrea, you’re right about decision, but wrong about your understanding of the verb “to decide.” Check the dictionary and you will see the -ing form listed as a verb, not just an adjective, because the definitions include “to solve or conclude; to determine or to settle; to bring (a person) to a decision, persuade or convict. All of these can be a continuous action in the present tense as they have the connotation of process (re: Marcy is in the process of making her decision at the time of the frame). Note, too, that present progressive additionally can denote an action that will be occurring in the future, esp with verbs that indicate change or movement (”The bus is arriving in twenty minutes), and as she has NOT made her decision yet, she is still deciding and will finalize her decision in the future.
All that aside, I think debate works just fine here, too…
These debates about grammar are very interesting. How come nobody noticed my colorist made the ottoman the wrong color in the last frame? Heads will roll!
