Perhaps education is a bit like democracy. A terrible form – but the others are so much worse.
Education suffers from two main issues.
1- By definition it cannot serve the same. (People are individuals with their own particular needs.) Unfortunately, by definition – it must (to a degree)
2- The public educations system is asked to do the impossible. Teachers are asked to be not just teachers but psychologists, social workers, priests, personal guidance counselors, and entertainers. Impossible.
When one’s wife is a dedicated teacher one sees things in a different light. It is easy to throw stones – but how many of those who are quick to criticize get up and go into the schools to help?
This is not to dispute the unfortunate accuracy of the comic. But it is NOT the whole truth.

Hello Mr. Mallett,
I’m not here to put you down, but I do take my poetry seriously. It’s not easy to write rhyming poetry, the necessary skills don’t get passed on anymore. Song lyrics often use end rhyme, or attempt to, but lyrics are generally quite different from poetry. Ask anyone who has paid to have their “poems turned into songs”. Or, try to sing your favorite rhyming poem, using your favorite melody.
Frazz and Lio are my go-to comics, and I think either of them bid fair to replace Calvin and Hobbes as #1. The poems and song lyrics which you present as Frazz’ work are far below the quality of all other aspects of the comic: storylines, facial expressions, characters, startling originality, and humor…George Carlin-quality humor.I don’t mean to boast, but I believe I could give you some lyrics and poems which would show off Mr. Frazier’s talents to best advantage, as they used to say.If you’re interested, email me and I’ll send you the URL for my website. I think you’ll find enough work there to let you decide for yourself if my writing is as good as your drawing.
