    @gmartin997: normally, I would agree with you but the NBA (and other professional sports teams) are basically a legal monopoly. IF the NBA followed free market policies of letting anyone start a team, and if there were double the teams, I’m sure the salaries would be less and the ticket prices lower. I think fans will eventually find cheaper entertainment values (soccer, badminton..who knows).

    @dmillerp — The NBA has no monopoly on basketball. You can start your own sports team or league any time you want. But players of course want to go where the money is, so the best players in the world are going to gravitate to the NBA rather than your league. Your league is going to get the cast-offs. People want to see the best players, so the NBA gets the viewers.
