Mornin’ all!Junior!?I should have seen it coming, considering his reaction when Vera was arrested. And great art as always. (It looks like Joe is channeling his inner Steve Ditko in panel 3!)
Sometimes I don’t mind being wrong… this is one of those times. All right, Junior! And those Ditko-hands reminds me of when he designed the Creeper for DC Comics. Ah, memories….
Junior is a cop so his having a gun with him isn’t unusual. He’s a sketch artist but also spends time out in the field which I think is great. I’d love to see more of Junior fighting crime alongside his Dad, reminiscent of when he was a kid.
If you don’t think Junior is dangerous where family is concerned, check out the story where his first wife was murdered. Junior was out for revenge rather than justice.
OK, where’s the hat? He had a hat when he first entered stage left and we saw the profile. That’s why a lot of us thought it was going to be a cameo of The Shadow.
Hey Tarry, how do you do all of the “fake HTML” in the comments? I’ve tried a few different things, but I’ve only been able to accidentally figure out strikeout..And I did a quick search over the site and couldn’t find a how-to.
As MD and DanDone have both pointed out, it’s not at all unusual for a police officer to carry off-duty. I, like Dan, do it myself. I’d be surprised if Dick Jr. was NOT carrying off-duty..As for its being to big to conceal, my off-duty is a 1911-style .45. I was once on a panel with Al Collins and others about Mickey Spillane’s importance to the mystery genre. One of the other panelists remarked that it wasn’t really credible that Mike Hammer was able to conceal a .45 under his jacket as was described in the novels. He happened to be sitting right next to me on the, and was very surprised when I pulled back my jacket and showed it wasn’t that incredible after all.
Ditko hands, yes! Pre-date his Dr. Strange & Spider-Man work. Love it. And so much cooler in B&W: http://www.chron.com/entertainment/comics-games/comic/Dick-Tracy/
Regarding your comment yesterday about MS. TREE and PLAINCLOTHES:.I haven’t got the MS. TREE story in front of me, but I believe the panel with Tracy and Sam was in the very first story, the one serialized in ECLIPSE, before the character got her own title. It’s a scene with Rafe Valer and Ms. Tree in the lobby of Police HQ. They’re in the background, and Sam and Tracy are in the foreground. The thing is, they’re drawn as they might have been by a Milt Caniff/Alex Raymond-style illustrator rather than a cartoonist/caricaturist like Gould, so you might not recognize them at first..As for PLAINCLOTHES, that was taken off-line when Mike and Joe accepted their current positions as author and artist for TRACY. However, if you’re really interested, write me at jimdohertyjr@yahoo.com, and I’ll send you a file with the material I wrote about yesterday.
Is Kadaver cutting and running, or is he just getting ready to add Junior to his Hit Parade? For the answer to this question, tune in tomorrow, same Tracy Time, same Tracy Channel!

He thought he’d pay a visit with a .45? When Pop gets loose, he’s gonna have some explaining to do!

Glad to see Junior on the scene to rescue Dick, even if Kadaver does escape for the time being in a cloud of trickery!

I didn’t see this one coming! It’s neat that Junior has a dark side.

Look at Junior’s collar in panel 2. That looks like what could have been mistaken for a hat in yesterday’s strip.

So in P3 what did Abner K just throw to the floor? Some kind of smoke bomb, or gas-emitting device? Disabling?
