At least now he knows that when he starts kicking himself over this, it won’t hurt much…..

Took me a minute to get the joke, but it’s a good one!I guess the spinal crack-ups were better than the embarrassment of being a lousy kicker.

From what I’ve read Lucy was based on Shultz’ first wife.

It was hilarious! I remember the Peanuts spoof in Mad Magazine. It featured them as teenaged hippies then Charlie Brown and Lucy married and middle aged.

@LaffinLarry: Thank you for the pic of the canal.

Our ship went through the Panama Canal in 1977 (Atlantic to Pacific). It was pretty cool. There had just been some political outcry at the time about Panama wanting to take ownership of the canal. After all, we did dig up their land. The issue had just gotten temporarily settled.

We were the first American ship to go through after the settlement and supposedly there were those that were not satisfied with the result. We were going to be spending a few days in Panama City at the beginning of the trip and we were lectured about being on our best behavior and reminded that, being in the military, we were forbidden to discuss any politics with the locals while we were there. Obviously, we made it through without indecent.

Besides the overall beauty of the area (some parts reminded me of the old Tarzan movies), two things stood out to me. The first is one area we were at had these humongous purple butterflies. They had a wingspan of at least four inches. They had flown all the way to our ship. They did not appear to be afraid of people.

The second was, I was on watch and walking my rounds when we got the news of Elvis’ death.

@sunshine: Wow, once again you gave me some insight yesterday! All I could do was slap my head and say, “DUH!”

How simple is that? I kind of feel like good ol’ Charlie Brown today. Thank’s for giving me the friendly advice instead of picking up your keyboard and slapping me with it.

I will try to make that a habit from here on in. Starting with this post!

The one giveaway: Charlie Brown is running from the left side of the panel to the right. In all the Schultz comics, he always comes in from the right and runs left.

Just check it out. I wonder if Schultz was left-handed and generally drew that direction.

Just FYI for anyone who wanted that little snippet of info.
