Changing the 5 second rule to 25 seconds would actually make it so he has less of a chance to get anything. The rule is that if you can pick it up within the 5 seconds its still good not that the dog has that long to get to it.
My cat……long gone now……would sit beside my chair, then stretch up and use her paw to feel around the edges of the table hoping to find food. I would put a few peas or corn for her to knock to the floor. She liked peas but loved corn. It was entertaining for her and also for me. I miss that cat!

I know it’s late and I’m tired……. but….. doesn’t Roscoe have that backwards?
I think he wants a 2 second rule…..
a 25 second rule would give the humans even more time to think the food was still safe for them.
It’s not about giving Roscoe more time to grab it.
He can as long as he likes getting there once they’ve decided it’s only fit for the dog.

Oops…. sorry Zed — took me too long to type, so I didn’t see what you’d posted….but at least we agree!

It’s unanimous. We all agree that Brian screwed up. But Pickles is still one of my favorites.

It doesn’t make sense..Wouldn’t the 25 second rule give Earl more time to pick it up and eat it ?
Foghorn Leghorn almost 13 years ago
I didn’t think Earl could bend over that far, there’s no 5 second rule in my house, my dog is there before it even hits the floor.
PeterPeterPE almost 13 years ago
The 5 second rule is not true. Food that has hit the floor is not fit for humans to then eat !! Let Roscoe have it !!

In his prime, my dog would have gotten it before it hit the floor.

Incidentally…..she lived for 24 years! Maybe it was the peas and corn that aided her longevity?

Occupy Kitchen — finally a cause I can believe in.

We have two golden dogs and have to be careful so chocolate does not hit the floor. Bacon is to greasy for dogs to eat include humans to.

Better luck next time, Roscoe!

Roscoe, I am ashamed of you! You know by now that anytime Earl is in the kitchen, you had better be stationed next to his legs!
psychlady almost 13 years ago
You’ll have to be faster next time.
Drewdove almost 13 years ago
I think the 5-sec rule should be changed to the dog rule: Any food that hits the floor becomes dog food. I’m sure Roscoe would agree. ;-)

Roscoe is indeed getting slow. I know a few cats that can get to a dropped tidbit in less that 2 seconds.

Roscoe is a dog. Five seconds is 25 seconds in dog years!!
