Where I live, two local shelters were able to get a famous store from selling (Puppy Mill) puppies and to have rescued dogs/puppies only. It’s working well and I hope the rest of these “famous stores” will do the same soon.
Yes… wonderful post today. My daughter just rescued a 4 year old dog and it was much the same. He is just learning that playing is fun and so is walking down a street on a lead. But the best thing is cuddling with his new human .cheers, parsnip
We Americans seem so often to be satisfied with the merest appearance.
For puppies, we accept a dog-shaped creature that is alive, but not really a puppy, since it never got any loving care from man or dog.
For food, we accept fast food that looks and smells rather like real food, but has little nutrition, and often not much more taste.
For homes, we accept boxes that look all alike, but are made out of cardboard and glitter—and we sometimes seem satisfied by families that are similarly for looks.
.
It’s our drive to be so efficient and to have it all—never mind the quality of what we have.
Soi true. A lot of puppy mill dogs brought into rescue are terrified of grass because all they have known is the filthy cage that they lived in. I met a lady with a mill rescue. He had been in a cage for 10 years. The day I saw them was his 3 month anniversary of freedom.

When he said “rescue” dog, I thought he meant he was a St. Barnard in training.
