So true and well said gmartin. I’ve been going through listings of dog shelters in L.A. to help my Mom find a new dog and the number of dogs — and cats — waiting for their “forever” home is stunning and saddening.
Who is to say that junkyard dogs don’t enjoy their job? They get to roam all night and they get fed in the morning. They may not be purse dogs(accessories), but who is to say that is what they wanted in the first place?
It’s not that puppy mills are ‘allowed’. It’s just that they’re hidden. As soon as the authorities find one, they bust it up and take the dogs away. There should be a new law: If you are convicted of animal cruelty, it should say on your driver’s license that you are not allowed to own an animal. Anyone selling or giving away an animal has to ask to see the ID.

When my daughter was a baby we found a beagle puppy in a local park and adopted him. He would cower whenever I came into view, same with any male that came around. Loved my wife and daughter dearly. My only conclusion was that some man had badly abused that poor beagle. Sad that such people are allowed to exist.

Unfortunately, I’ve known dogs that held a grudge. They ended up as junk yard dogs or sent to the land of the white rabbit.
