What cdward and cynks said. There might—might—be a story in political correctness gone amuck in the schools, but picking something that causes kids to kill themselves probably ain’t it. And frankly, the whole breathless anti-PC thing is overwrought hand-wringing. For instance, there’s a good chance that the candy-cane weapon banning never actually happened. This story set in Prince William County includes this quote: “Principal Amy Etheridge-Conti says she can’t comment on the students’ discipline but did say there was a lot more to it than handing out candy and that the discipline was warranted.” Schools aren’t allowed to comment. And that is ONE school in which the report about candy cane weapons is dubious at best. Seriously folks, stop your fretting about the death of free speech and other political correctness run amok. It’s not actually happening.
Will this ridiculous, unfunny and unedifying storyline never end? And really — the school has a policy against “using the word ‘gay’”? Nonsense. Zack would not have been suspended for saying “My gay Uncle John doesn’t have kids of his own, so he buys me lots of great presents.” Like all the strips in this continuity, today’s makes no acknowledgement that there’s something wrong with using “gay” as an all-purpose negative adjective.
We used to use the word “queer” to describe things off kilter or weird. It seems to have morphed over to “gay”. Personally, I enjoy how politically correct nazi crap is handled in this strip. One more reason my grandchildren don’t go to public school.
Who cares about the story line?? Each strip has a good punchline and stands on its own. That is good enough for me! And P.C. has gone way too far – I am worried about the backlash that is bound to occur.
If this was for real the Mom should keep up with whats allowed in her kids school. She should have known this and if not she should go to the school board .
