I have found that, in the business world, rote memorization is not so nearly important as being able to know where to find the correct answer for a given situation. I’ve tried to impress this fact upon my children’s teachers…..
@Finbar you are right. My grandfather used to say that “You are only as smart as the nearest book”. I’d love to smack co-workers due to stupid comments like “I wonder what (fill in the blank”. I’ve gotten to where I have started sending them the “Let me Google that for you” link.

Some asks me a stupid question and nowdays I just say “Google knows”

I’ll put in a plug for research librarians also—since not all answers can be had in google, or phrasing it for good results isn’t always easy.
