    For some reason this made me think of the movie ‘A Boy and his Dog’ and a story by Harlan Ellison. Especially the last scene of the movie. _

    This reminds me more of Reb Tevye’s comment (that and the cynicism expressed by some here): “Then may God strike me with it! (aside to God) And may I never recover!”(he was speaking of money but Snoopy could get something no amount of money could buy)

    And looming over everything is that eternal verity of comic strips, “And then everything went back the way it was before.” There were changes, occasional new characters, but it was clear Snoopy’s love was never to be.
