Lynn said the entire New years party was based of something that really happened. Apparently when she moved to Lynn Lake, she had a getting to know you party for all the big wigs, such as business owners, mayor and neighbors. They rented a hall for the party. Rod (Her husband) got drunk, and she got embarrassed. So she decided to take him home, they didn’t have a car then. Apparently most of the town followed along in their cars watching as he stumbled around as she tried to get him home.
Apparently most of the other townspeople had got drunk, because all anyone could remember was Lynn yelling at her husband and taking him home. But nothing that Rod did. According to her, she learned to let things be after that incident.
You’d think the bashing started after he left her for a younger woman — her version. But as you can see from the reruns it’s been going on from the beginning.
There is always collateral damage when parents fight. My wife and I went thru a rough patch (putting it mildly) where my then young son asked if he was the problem. Talk about a shot to the heart.
Rod is Lynn’s second husband. Her first husband was the father of Aron (Micheal). Rod is father to Kate (Elizabeth).
The husband bashing is often about her first husband and the boyfriends she had before Rod. She didn’t know her second husband cheated on her till after FBOFW was over.
The fighting is over. They are making up and hugging, and the kids moved on and cannot see them moving on into the bedroom. Ahhhhh! Making up is sooooo good.
All parental conflict is scary for all kids. It is, however, an unavoidable part of life and learning for the children. I think Lynn tends to “bash” everyone (even the kids and dog!) by showing our faults as well as our cuteness. That’s why I like it. Watching people who don’t mess up bores me.
@Nabuquduriuzhur – I just caught up on the last week or so’s comments, and in light of my reading, I respectively offer my perspective:1) If after your lifetime of experience, you’ve come to the conclusion that women are passive-agressive, emasculating, and manipulative, perhaps you’ve been dating and/or marrying the wrong women.2) If you’re going to rely on Iron Age writings to inform your relationships, perhaps you could consider balancing it with something written a little more recently. (I’m not talking about feminist writing; I don’t often find anything useful there, and I’m sure you wouldn’t either.)
Panel #4 . . . isn’t that just the truth?! I love my mother but she drives me absolutely banana cakes sometimes! She’s a 75 year old widow and yet still so naive about the world around her and the dangers it can hold for someone like her. I try to warn and protect her against people who’ll try to scam her out of her money or talk their way into her home to rob her but she pretty much believes anything anyone tells her . . . except, apparently, me! But all I can do is just keep trying and hope nothing bad ever happens to her.
