This is getting more than a bit ridiculous. Thought that FINALLY there was a sweet ending to this arc, and the strip would move on to some other characters for the first time in months. No such luck…sigh. I really wonder if Scancarelli is still doing this strip, because it really lost something good over the last several months :-(
I’m surprised Clovia didn’t take the cash to the police lab immediately when Slim handed it—given that she knows that Slim has a vacuum between the ears.
Substituting Rufus and Joel for Slim is better? All three are overused. How about something completely different (not to steal Monty Python’s line)? Remember when the strip was about children (Skeezix and his pals)? How about a storyline just having Gus Alley and the other kids? Problem is, I don’t think Jim knows how to write children realistically.
Just when I thought it was safe to start reading this strip again. :( I wouldn’t mind if it was a silly storyline but the stupid ones are just too annoying.
I agree; I can’t stand Joel and Rufus. All it would be is three months of getting their mule-cart over the semi-collapsed bridge by the dump. Walt and his caretaker are interesting; Skeezix and Nina dealing with the new washing machine, and going on vacation, was quite nicely done. Corky would be great to see! I would even accept Clovia and Slim, if the point was to show that Slim was helping Clovia’s heart to melt, and Clovia was able to keep Slim in check. This is just annoying, and could play out in 1/4 of the time it is taking.
Airboy20: Gus Alley and Kathleen Elly were born on Christmas Day, 1992. They’re 19 now, so a storyline focusing on either one would likely be a college- or relationship-related one (I wrote one on the old board a few years back with then-14-year-old Gus trying to make some money doing yard work).Jim could also revisit Ada and/or Amanda Lynn, who we haven’t seen since the boyfriend story back in 2009, or Gretchen, who hasn’t been seen in such a long time that nobody could tell me what she did for a living when I wrote ANOTHER story on the old board that featured her in 2007.I’m not sure there are any little kids left in the cast other than seven-year-old Boog Skinner, son of Rover and Hoogy. All the others have aged-up offscreen.
As the cash handler of GA Garage, I’m surprised that Clovia didn’t put the bills up to the light for verification. This time she is as much at fault as Slim.
Mr. Scancarelli, please! Not the gentle. funny strip I remember. GA is being run into the ground. Will the strip and Skeezix see a 100th anniversary/ I wonder.

Maybe the car thieves were arrested on another charge and Clovia will overhear them talking about stealing the cars from her garage.

One hopes that Clovia’s cousin Eve’s motorcycle gang will apprehend Chubby and teach him a lesson.

I’m still rooting for bringing back Chipper and his family. His kids must be teenagers by now, couldn’t Jim write for them?
