Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for January 10, 2012

Goat: I can't believe you're protesting 'Sesame Street.' Rat: You can't, huh? Well, think about it... the show teaches young people that the 99% of Americans who are not rich have no choice but to get used to their substandard living conditions. Goat: What are you talking about? Oscar: Hey kids, it's fun to live in garbage cans. Rat: See? Goat: Hey, c'mon. He's grouchy about it.

I read this hilarious blog claiming that Sesame Street has been putting subliminal messages into kids since 1969. It blamed Cookie Monster for the obesity epidemic, as if that had anything to do with it. It blamed Burt and Ernie for the widespread growth of gay marriage (they pointed out a rainbow-stripes shirt that Ernie wears), and said that the order the letters are taught is a subliminal message to indoctrinate children. Some theories about the Illuminati are reasonable; this one was not. All those paranoid people, I don’t even know what to say to them.

Very disturbing. Mr. Pastis appears to be one of those 1% hardworking; entrepreneurial; focused; undeserving; filthy rich people who spit on the poor morals and ethics of the rest of us 99%!For shame! The Horror… the Horror…

So how does Rat feel about “Top Cat”?

One of my favorite old Mad Magazine satires was “Reality Street” which pretty much blew the hell out of “Sesame Street”, so I’m really enjoying this current Pearls story arc.

He’s grouchy ‘cause he’s got a hand up his butt making him talk. You would be too.

Oscar and Rat have a certain natural affinity. Goat, I’m sure, was a regular viewer when he was just a kid.
