Dogs are quite capable of detecting residual odour—as I found out the HARD way once a day after I came to Chennai from Bengaluru. Both homes in which I stayed had male dogs—and the one in Chennai (90% Alsatian, 10% cocker-spaniel) detected the smell of the Bengaluru one (100% “large” Pom) even after 2 baths (I arrived in Chennai in evening, the dog detected the smell midmorning)!
