Just to expand on my other comment: If the situation had been that the girl was supposed to, say, clean her room, but instead went out to play iin the pool, and her mom said she couldn’t have any dessert because she didn’t clean her room when she was supposed to, that would be discipline.
Here the mom is punishing the girl for something that may be beyond her control. She may have been doing the best she could at handstands, but because she maybe just started learning to do them, or because her body is growing and she’s a little clumsy, her handstands weren’t as graceful as those of someone with more practice or who was a trained gymnast or something.
Wow. I often times go to the comments to try and figure out a G&R comic, but this time I felt compelled to post. This was just plain mean-spirited and not at all amusing. Unless I’m missing a subtle point they are trying to make.
Kids don’t learn w/o consequences; but these two incidents seem totally disconnected. That would be like my wife denying me something now because I got an MRI on our first anniversary (which did happen, many, many years ago).
This is mean-spirited and cruel at any time, and especially inappropriate at this time of year. Brevity jumped the shark a long time ago, and I have just about decided to give it up for lost.
hello – love your comments and you are great – but today’s comic was painful to read…. and not funny in the least – Keep up the good work; everyone’s entitled to make a mistake once in awhile…Blessings and Happy New Year from Montana :)

America was great when we had more parents like this.

Konrad—there’s a difference between discipline & meanness. This woman has stepped over that line, sorry to say.

Kids don’t learn w/o consequences. If only my parents had treated me this way.

To me, this panel lacks anything worth publishing – for any reason.
I can’t figure out why it is showing up on my computer.

She probably won’t have to get therapy because she’s not real, but who knows.
