Regarding yesterday’s comments on the thicker lines in the Sundays: maybe it’s because they know most papers will just squish it down to fit 1/8 of a page.On the back of my Sunday paper, Beetle Bailey looks decent, but Curtis, with its thin, detailed lines, looks microscopic.
So is Honeymoon really a purple belt, or did the gocomics staff colorist just decide to promote a white belt without consulting the actual creators? A white belt throwing a black belt is a bigger deal than a purple belt doing so.
And in B/W, there no shade on Honeymoon’s belt vs Lizz’s black belt. As usual, the GoComics colorist goof again. One more reason to have the dailies in B/W.
FYIOriginally, there were only two belts in martial arts.White for student, Black for teacher. The colored belt system was created in the 1900s..The More You Know!
Wow! Honeymoon is quite a student! When I read this last night on Comicskingdom, she was a white belt. And now, on GoComics, she’s a purple belt!By tomorrow morning, she should be a 10th degree black belt!(Hey, Mike, what color belt should it be? Is she a novice?)
Honeymoon is slowly but surely turning into a very proficient addition to the Tracy crime-fighting family. And I have a feeling this is not just a casual exercise in our Team Tracy storyline….
(I’ve been away from my computer for a few days, but have caught on Tracy and my other favorites.)
Glad to see another anime fan. I only have a modest 3 terabytes of downloaded fan subs myself. (grin) For those who are curious, that is equal to about 6000 or so hours of anime, give or take a 1000 hours. Episodes run from around 150MB to as much as 500MB depending on quality so I am using 250MB as a ballpark figure. I also own a bunch of DVD’s and have a lot of the older stuff burned to disk for storage, so I would say you could start watching now and not finish till sometime in 2014.
I sort of figured Lizz would be a Sergeant myself. It isn’t strange to have Lizz be the lowest ranked officer, since she is the newest member after Dick, Junior, Pat, and Sam. Lee Ebony, is probably a lower rank than Lizz, she is definitely a Detective rank. Johnny Adonis isn’t with the force currently. I believe he is still an active PI.Jim Doherty is of the opinion Lizz is one rank lower and is a Detective the same as Lee Ebony. Junior is a bit of a mystery, but I would guess he is the same rank as Lizz, a Detective or a Sergeant. Sam Catchem is most likely a Lieutenant. Both JD and I agree to that rank as being reasonable. Per JD Dick Tracy is a Chief of the Detective Bureau. I personally thought this was Pat Patton’s rank, but I have been told I am wrong. I personally thought Dick might be the Commander in charge of the Central Investigations Division of which the Major Crime Squad is a subsidiary, or maybe the Deputy Chief under Pat. I suppose with 80 years of service (grin) Chief isn’t to much to ask for. Pat is actually a Superintendent of Police. The highest ranking officer. I think his annual salary is over 100 grand. Not to shabby for someone who spends all of his time drinking coffee in the MCS and having Tracy do all of the work.
“Is it me, or does it appear that based on the commnents over the past few days that EVERYBODY in the Dick Tracy strip who is a police officer has some type of ‘rank’ ABOVE Lizz.”.Not everybody. Pat, Dick, and Sam all outrank her or, in the case of Sam, is, at the very least, senior to her. Junior probably has the same rank, or else he’s a patrolman working in plain clothes because of his specialty, so Lizz is either senior to or outranks him. Lee is a detective, like Lizz, and she was an academy buddy of Lizz’s, so , presuming she made detective at roughly the same time, she’s roughly equivalent..Any unformed patrol officer is outranked by Lizz. Anybody holding the rank or sergeant or higher, in or out of uniform, outranks Lizz..I’ll probably regret asking this, but why exactly should that “disturb you greatly?”
Hmm… If Honeymoon is part of the USJA then it is possible for her to have the Purple belt as a Junior 9th Degree. She would have to be very dedicated though, which it looks like she is. I am upset to see her using Teacher instead of Sensei though. Lizz must be a very lax Master to allow that. Every martial arts school I ever saw called the Master, Sensei.
So Jim, that whole business of Lizz being Chief while Pat was out sick… Would that have been possible? Based on what you’re saying about the ranks, others should been temporarily promoted before she was. This may have been made clear when she became chief but I don’t recall it.

I don’t know. I think it’s be a better tribute to her father if she took on the role of Moonbeam McSwine instead ;D

And when the Oriental martial arts aren’t practical, Liz(z) packs a Kimber Pro Carry .45 for “those difficult moments.”
