Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have a law that no campaign ads, debates, or other political maneuvering could appear more than two months before the relevant election?
On the other hand, I’ve gotten lots of laughs out of the recent debate spate.
When the proverbial “Little Old Lady in Tennis Shoes” was asked on the Jack Paar Show (remember Jack Paar?) how she was going to vote, she replied, “Oh, I never vote. It only encourages them.” … I’ve often felt that way myself.
Back in the ’70s, someone wrote a letter to the editor, “If Britain can hold an election in four weeks, why does Canada take six?” So they shortened it to five.
Australia and Ireland have instant runoffs: vote first, second, etc. choices, and the last place is dropped and their additional choices added in until someone gets a majority, not just a plurality.
If we can ever get our democratic republic back from the military/industrial complex, those should be high on the list of things to enact to keep it.
