Praying Mantis: No, sweetie, wait... um, I mean... uh... well, here - at least wear a heavy coat. One one hand, Teresa needed her sidewalk shoveled. On the other hand, she hated for her dinner to get cold.
BTW I’ve read that Hillburn lives in Texas, so he probably doesn’t know what a snow shovel looks like …. which is not entirely a bad thing not to have to know.
When I lived in Wisconsin, back in high school, my Dad used to say (and I’m sure it’s an old joke) that he was going to tie a snow shovel to the roof of his car and drive south.
When he got to someplace where people pointed at it and said “what’s that?” he’d buy a house.
It is funny that this comic appeared today. We just got our first snow this winter that called for salt and scrapping cars. (Columbus, OH) though the sidewalk at this time can be cleared with a broom.
I’ve heard that the only reason that the female mantises in the study ate the males was that they hadn’t been fed for a while beforehand. When there’s other food, they don’t do this.

Sure, she sounds like she’s just looking out for him, but you just know that if he hesitates she’ll bite his head off.

Like most male mantises, he hasn’t got a prayer.

Susan: It is a variation on an old joke of Homer’s. Odysseus had to carry an oar until someone thought it were a winnowing paddle.
