Paige: Holy cow! Can this be?! Today's lunch actually resembles real food! Sliced turkey... peas and carrots... chocolate pudding... A first! Congratulations!
Lunch Lady: Thanks. Enjoy your spaghetti.
And yet, my kids liked the canned Chef Boy Ar Dee spaghetti, not any kind of home made pasta with sauce. Go figure. Now that they they have grown up, they know better.
I don’t know what branch of service you were in, but I’ve eaten in chow halls all over the world and in every branch and never had a bad meal. I can even make a decent meal from K-rations and MREs…
I have to agree Army food wasn’t that bad. The only time it got a little difficult was C rations in basic. I even have a bit of a taste for powdered eggs with creamed beef on toast. And my other half calls me a picky eater.
Wife makes the BEST spaghetti sauce – better than any jar or any restaurant I have EVER been in …. 1-2 lbs spicy italian sausage (sometimes cooked with fire oil for flavor) – 3 cans tomato soup (not sauce) – 1tblespoon brown chili powder – 3 heaping tblespoons minced garlic – 2 tblespoons dried onion flakes – 2 tblespoons italian seasonings – 2 dashes worchestershire sauce … cook in a large sauce pan for 20 minutes … pour over noodles 0r mix noodles in … OK, now I’m hungry … ;-))

Hmm, the cook doesn’t know what she’s cooking. Bet it tastes like plastic.

The only thing we called “mystery food” when I was in school was the refried beans.

You do not want to know what is in chicken nuggets. Trust me, you do not want to know the whole story.

As a rule, I don’t like to eat anything I can’t identify.

Lol. Once I was having lunch @ school, and there was this chicken covered in a red liquid and I freaked out. It was just barbecued. o_o
