Running out of gas is no fun. I did not have much money at the time and my car stopped a mile from my house. I had to walk back in the dark. someone blasted there horn on me for no reason, get a gas can and walk back. Then it still did not start. Had to get someone to push me with there car till it did.
Needless to say it only happened once. I was poor but at least my gas tank was full

If your a parent it may be a good idea to check behind your own kids to make sure they did what they were supposed to do. It is not really about trust but about learning and growing up.
In short the dad should have checked the gas gage and yes the son should have put gas in the car.
