Spiders (members of the order Araneæ) have only two body segments – a cephalothorax (combining the head and thorax found in insects) and abdomen). The creatures in this cartoon have three, making them more like mutant ants (order Formicidæ) or termites (order Termitoidæ), with eight legs instead of six.
At least you chose an honest nickname. You can’t find anything in Wikipedia unless you know what to look for. I already knew spiders only had two body segments. I only needed to look up the terminology.

Well of course they’re mutants. How else can they talk? ;)
