Andy: Kids! I'm stunned! I've never seen the basement so spotless! Who knew you could do such a great job? Paige and Peter: Thank you... thank you... Andy: Remind me to put you to work cleaning the garage this summer. Peter: Wait! Wait! We missed a spot! Paige: Several!

They should have taken Calvin’s approach-if you do a bad enough job, you don’t get asked to do it again.

Fortunately, the general rule in our capitalist society is “the harder the job, the more it pays”. ALWAYS do good work, kids, and you’ll get picked to do increasingly harder jobs that pay increasingly more money.

She should’ve kept that to herself and actually rewarded her kids, that way they’re be more willing to do more cleaning.

Aren’t basements usually filled with power tools like lathes, drill presses, saws, a cluttered workbench, etc? Why isn’t Dad helping out?

I use to work retail in a department store. The job everyone hated was dealing with returns so the department could get credit for it. Most of the people in the department I worked in hated the job so much that they intentionally did a bad job with it so the boss wouldn’t give them the job again. I took the view that if I did the job right the first time I wouldn’t have to do the job again. Guess who alwas got assigned the job.

My wife has a “honeydo” list. I never do the job at the top, because if I do she just adds three more things on the bottom of the list.
