Frazz by Jef Mallett for January 25, 2012
Transcript:
Girl: My dad was surprised to learn I'm Chinese. He said it doesn't matter if my birthday is Chinese New Year. I was born in America, so I'm American. I said his honda was made in Ohio and people think it's foreign. He said it had to do something with unions. Frazz: Most of genetics does.

Aren’t Hondas Japanese or something? BTW, it’s 10:20 pm here and the comics changed.

Subtle, the way Frazz is breaking the fourth wall, by polishing it…

That’s one union that has one sided labor……………

This girl needs to study more. Her birthday might have fallen on Chinese New Year this year, but because this is based on a lunar cycle her birthday won’t fall on the Chinese New Year the following year.

Well done Kiso! I was going to comment on that also but you beat me to it. Again, Well done Kiso!

Indeed, he’s cleaning the fourth wall. Is that so we can see in, or so that he can see out?

Exactly – follow the dollars!

Depends. Profit is only one component of a product’s economic impact. If a “foreign” car is assembled in the USA of mostly US-made components, then it might put more money and more jobs into the US economy than an “American” car that’s assembled here from mostly foreign components.

I’ve seen Frazz use a squeegee on the forth wall (window?) before, too. Hey, did I spell squeegee right?
tigre1 almost 13 years ago
No, you didn’t spell squeegee right. You spelled it squeegee. The fourth wall reflects the letters in a confusing way. See? It changed the way I spelled squeegee too…

I read recently that the two most “American” cars, based on where they were made, percentage of domestic content, how many were sold here and a few other factors, are the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The next time someone starts screaming “Buy American,” you can point out to them that it’s just about impossible to do that anymore.

Not to put too fine a point on it, American-made “foreign car” = money to U.S. workers and overseas rich people; foreign-made U.S. car = money to overseas workers and U.S. rich people. That’s grossly oversimplified but I don’t think it’s wrong.

Like the POV in the last panel, that we have been on the other side of glass the whole time.
