Satchel: Stop mocking me for picking smell as my superpower! I never cared about it to begin with! Just tell me what power you wanted and get it over with! Bucky: Oh my head... You muddled me so much I forgot what I was going to pick... Uh... Satchel: Maybe you should be short-term memory man! Ha ha! Bucky: I'm about to choose the power of dog ambushing. Satchel: I'd smell you coming.

Followup to my question from yesterday. I took the book (Stupidest Angel) out of the library. At first the author was trying too hard to be funny, then the writing got better and I did enjoy it. It had its moments.

Traditions and practices have reasons that may be forgotten by the following generations.

Why is it that nobody likes bagpipes? Or fruitcake?
Zillah Clayton almost 13 years ago
Because most fruitcakes have a shelf life of 50,000 years….

I have ancestry from two different countries. In one of those countries, they kiss a big stone for good luck and believe in little green bearded men. In the other one, the always say their surname at the beginning of a phone call instead of “hello”, and they have an unnatural propensity for launching genocidal right-wing governments. So yeah, there are cultural practices in my past I don’t want to replicate.

Bucky has been watching “Zorba the Greek” and “Dr Zhivago” too late into the night. The plates are next.

A really good fruit cake has a high alcohol content. :)Bagpipes sound too sad. Therefore, you need the two together to balance out the mood.

A good fruitcake is made with fresh nuts and dried fruit soaked in brandy. But I agree with the euwww on Skittles —in or out of the fruitcake.

Time to start a new tradition. Throw Bucky against the wall. (not too hard, I do love cats.)

Bagpipes are best heard at a distance (and no, I’m not kidding). Years ago there was a guy around here who used to pipe a Lament at sunset in the summers. From about half a mile away it was one of the most haunting and lovely sounds you’d ever want to hear.

Just like on “Rescue Me” I want “Inna Godda Davida” played on the bagpipes at my funeral..

Well, it’s like everything. Good fruitcakes are great. Bad fruit cakes are horrible. If you keep using enough brandy, you’ll forget that your initial intent was to make fruitcakes.Which illustrates the real problem. Bucky is an addict going through withdrawal. Give him a bag of catnip and he’ll settle down again.

the last really good fruitcake I had was when I was a teen. (decades ago) My friend’s parents were from Scotland and her mom used a very old receipe. What was made this year was not for this year, but for the next or the year after that. She believed in aging the fruitcake. And it was very, very well preserved – with brandy. .And I like the pipes.
