Ffascinating. . . Even if they suborn the rest of the crawlers/transports, they still die. . And out of the pan into the (line of) fire.

And we still do not know what Flask saw.. unless it is being surrounded. \ And there is still one actor not heard from, that being their current transport.

My interpretation? Wally and the gang have seen a very big ‘Incoming’, which will flatten everybody. They’re not running into a fight with the Topsiders – they’re running to get the **** out of there! Anyone who hangs around will be pulverised. Flask is still in the transporter, and for all I know, she’ll keep staring slack-jawed at the incoming until it hits.Petey may be just in time to fly over and hoik the three out of danger at the last moment. My suspicion is that the rocket has failed and is falling back to earth.

So… The Topsiders want to launch a spy rocket so they can kill a whole heap of Mutants. The Mutants want to make sure the rocket doesn’t work. The Topsiders decoy them with a rocket that doesn’t work, set up as a lure so they can kill a whole heap of Mutants. The Mutants get into a fight over whether to use the rocket to kill a whole heap of Topsiders or none at all, until they discover the rocket they made sure doesn’t work doesn’t work, but the one they didn’t make not work does. But that rocket doesn’t work either, and just when the Topsiders have almost finished killing a whole heap of Mutants, the rocket lands on them and kills the whole heap of Topsiders. You’ve got to see the funny side of it, haven’t you?

Maybe one or more of the hundreds of other mutant communities’ best people succeeded. But I’m betting on Mallard coming through after using everything as a distraction.

Perhaps the TS rocket didn’t work so well without Flask’s help after all…

Well, you kinda gotta figure that if the rocket is off course, the Topsider scientists running the launch center would be screaming about it about now, and the ones topside would be complaining about the interfering radio traffic. No, if there is incoming, it’s probably not related to the rocket.

Yeah, something’s definitely coming from above. Holly has her hands on her head in that protective way everyone does (panel 4) even if it’s something the size of a schoolbus coming down. She’s not warding against the guns of the TSers, that would probably have her forearms and hands in front of her face or something similar.Doesn’t seem as if the TSers have noticed anything. Too bad, maybe they’d scatter rather than do in our friends.Perhaps Flask knows something about the transporters that will help, even if it kills her in the end. It would be nice to see her attone (somewhat) for what she had become. Can’t wait to see how this unfolds!

Whatever is coming down is silent, else the TSers would look up… but.. all this said.. even if there’s only seconds, that is a lot of TSers and only one gun in Wally’s hand. They’ll think he’s doing a suicide run, and hey, it’s self-defence to vaporize him, no? I fear for our heroes.

Had Wally gone out pointing up and going “Look out!” he might have had more of a chance. But the only good part is that this strip was no on Friday! Imagine our agony. :)

When I first started following this epic on GoComics almost a year ago, Endtown only had a little over 300 subscribers. That number is now up to 2820. I don’t know how they decide which comic is “popular” today, but in terms of comments, it should be way higher! Calvin and Hobbes has over 189,000 followers. Why isn’t that on “Today’s Popular” every day? And how many comics are so good, that we check back, several times a day, just to read the newest comments?!?

Okay, Koalinda has been tied up for forever (it seems), and she only recently received those stumpy little koala legs. How can she run? Oh, yes, must be a BIG incentive!

It’s not too late Petey. A little diversion might be appropriate right now while they’re attempting to escape.

There are many potential problems with old rockets. (And the ICBMs that America relies on are likely 50 years old, and the tritium needs renewing more often than that). Basically the shell, the fuel if solid fuel, the tanks if liquid fuel are all old. For that matter a guidance up grade could be useful, though maybe not. I interviewed decades ago for a job: upgrade the computers on the DEW line. They knew each piece of software was perfect, and the hardware was solid, but old (vacuum tubes? maybe. It has been decades I can not recall correctly) and very large. They needed a replacement that was as good. This was pre pc, the replacement would likely be a DEC Mini, though it might have been a IBM mainframe. The DEC would have as much power as a vacuum tube machine, and fit on a desk, sort of.

Yes, there’s incoming Death from Above And it isn’t Flask’s old Petey-love So they’re running outside (And at least not yet died!) But there’s no Flask to give them a shove We think Missile Incoming’s the trigger There are threats either way — which is bigger? What if her comm’s the spot That’s the aim of that shot? She’s the specified target — go figger! =|====/ Level Head Vote for Endtown 2.0 And for Doc Rat, too The Endtown Forum

If Jenner’s theory is correct (and I am SO hoping it is!), then it’s no wonder that Flask is still staring off into space.I mean, as the former Chief Architect of the project that so many mutants have tried and failed to destroy…only for it to malfunction on its own and about to crash right on top of her…Flask… You should have just stayed in bed.

Question – If something is coming down from the sky, like most seem to think, why isn’t it visible in Panel 2?

It doesn’t make sense. Everything Flask’s team interacted with was fake. Wally & Holly put the chip in the wrong rocket. Flask interfaced with computers in a fake control center. They never interacted with the real rocket or the real control center. Petey never really got off the ground after launch. If the rocket is coming back, it has nothing to do with anything the mutant team has done. If it is headed for Flask, it is simply an unbelievable coincidence. The TS’s are in charge of the rocket and if they were dropping it on Flask for some unknown reason, they certainly wouldn’t have their people in so close. Nothing adds up. The real answer must be something else. Please Aaron, if this is Blackie’s last stand, give her some last words worthy of her. Even if it’s just “Oh @#$!*% !” Come on Tuesday!!!!

Actually, the third panel reminds me of an old excecution by idiots cartoon. All the executioners died from each other’s bullets and the condemed went free. – Shows that the topsiders have had no millitary training. You never surround your enemy for close quarters combat unless you have an elevation difference or a dead-stop between your allies.

I stil go for the failed rocket theory. I think the Topsiders’ rocket malfunctioned, fizzled out and is falling to earth. Forget all the speculation about aircrafts, guidances, and such. Forget speculation about Mallard’s reserve artillery. Forget incredible coincidence. From a narrative point of view, this is the solution that works. It ties up loose ends and grants a tidy balance between the moral and the practical. I’m going to wait a few days and see. IF I am right, then I will be happy to discuss this at greater length. And the remarkable coincidence of a rocket landing right on top of everyone? Look, this is a world of cartoon animals. There’s a magic oracle that tells people where they can find the Tree of Life. The chef tries to improve the flavour of bean casserole by letting a rat scuba dive in it. Their chief scientist is a duck. Of COURSE a rocket can fall on top of them. It’s this random sweetness that makes the bitter despair palatable, or indeed tantalisingly addictive.By the way, Aaron Neathery told me he is hanging back from contributing to the comments page, partly because he is still getting over his illness, and partly because at this crucial stage, with all of us biting our nails and wondering if this will be the end of Endtown, he doesn’t want to risk breaking the spell with a spoiler. However, he does assure us that he will still be giving us our daily Endtown fix for a long time to come. Although he can’t give us a completely happy ending to this current (He said he does not want the Topsiders to be just impotent figures of fun, like the Romans in Asterix), he absolutely will not give us a miserable ending, either. So hold the faith, everyone. Neathery will deliver. Even while he works on Endtown, literally, from his sick bed.By the way, beyond this, I personally don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow. Aaron hasn’t spoiled the spell for me.
