This is someone’s unlucky day. The real Cueball looks menacing, if looks could kill. (Don’t Call Me) Putty Puss looks, however, like he might get off the first shot. (But didn’t we see somewhere that he isn’t a good shot?)

Taking the law into one’s own hands isn’t a great idea, but neither of these guys are exactly on the right side of the law to begin with— so in this case it’s a wash.

A look back at the Comic Strip Artists at the Chicago Tribune -1931 . . . about the time when Gould was getting ready to launch Dick Tracy !.

Nostalgic for some, it also shows others how many of them had the Sam Catchem habit. Perhaps, in a way, Role Models for aspiring young Artists like - M.P. Hansel (?)

Seems these guys, were **’**coughing up**’** the dough !

Cartoon physics. Even in a gunfight, time stops long enough for characters to deliver expository dialog when needed by the story.

The rest of the gang has disappeared, and Cueball doesn’t seem too upset, in fact he looks pretty laid back considering the next few moments are going to be somewhat intense to say the least.

Cueball ain’t gonna like it that Mr Puss is trying to make an escape after ripping him off. Maybe “Mr. Ball” will surprise us all and hold Puss for the MCS to show up

Lizz and Lee stumbled on the cello case with the drugs a few strips back, so what cello case is in the corner in panel 1? Maybe the original case that was switched out when the substitution was made.

It looks like Putty Puss is about to learn (the hard way) not to rob other bad guys, especially when those guys are badder than you are.Of course, Tracy might show up to stop the shooting, but I wouldn’t bet on it.Either way, Cueball’s operation is toast, and so are P.P., Winkin and Blinkin. (You think Nod might scarper?)

“2) The writer is WAY to verbose, and needs to work……” Shouldn’t that be “The writer is WAY too verbose and needs to work…”?.

Small matter, but the language in panel 1 seems a tad heavy and “out of character” for the “original” Putty Puss aka Harley Niav !. An educated and more sophisticated Actor in an earlier life, from which Collins created him (1987)

But the PACING here is excellent - – - pure FIRE !

I don’t remember seeing Sydney’s post before. MPH did post a clip from People on Paper on 01-06-12 showing Chester Gould among others, but this is a different clip From Trees to Tribunes. It is from 1931, before Gould started doing Tracy. Both clips are now saved to my hard drive. Thanks guys!

Good catch Oak Ridge61…… I figured out a month ago that the school’s “favorite teacher” didn’t teach English grammar! And I doubt if he teaches a Dale Carnegie course, either!

MPH you did post a video here quite recently but it was a later vintage one titled “People On Paper” (MGM 1945). It included not only “Dick Tracy’s” Chester Gould but “Lil Abner’s” Al Kapp, "Steve canyon’s Milton Caniff, “Blondie’s” Chic Young among others. I enjoyed it immensely and failed to thank you at the time. So belatedly, thank you.
