Gee,Thanks for the help,Ed.Now I don't just need a jump I need a electrical system.
Glad to try to help, Bob.Boy, You'd think they'd mark those battery terminals better,so a guy wouldn't get the cables the wrong way
I now this feeling – was helping a mate shift and dropped his wife’s very expensive dresses in a puddle….Come to think of it, the next time he moved house he didn’t ask for my help … perhaps I did myself a favour …
On newer cars, there are several embedded processing units that are tied together via CAN bus (Controller Area Network). It doesn’t take much to take them all out with something depicted in this comic.
A certain family member went through this a while ago when we gave him a car we weren’t using. The crazy thing is, his old car supposedly needed a jump every few weeks, so you’d think he would know how to use jumper cables by then. Instead I came home that evening to the smell of burnt insulation and the neighbor’s toasted cables lying on the garage floor. Yeesh….

Ouch. Double-checking is well worth it.

And don’t put monosodium glutamate on battery terminals; remember the song “Accent, you ate the positive!”

Can’t be if corrosion is covering the terminals.
