My basset (Plum) wants no part of cats. He allows them to eat his food and take over his house. Often I have to come to his rescue from a feral colony of pushy cats.
That’s only because the dog is basically friendly and the cat is basically nasty. Around here the coyotes (who aren’t any bigger than a medium size dog but AREN’T basically friendly) make a regular meal of any cats in the neighborhood!
No, Fred should just run past the cat. Those other dogs will take care of the cat! If a cat ever meets a bigger dog that wants to kill the cat, the cat better get out of there QUICKLY or, just like with the coyotes around here, it’s a dead cat!
I don’t know. I’ve seen some cats that dogs learn not to tangle with. Sometimes, they can even put the run on coyotes, especially if the coyote isn’t REALLY serious about it.

You definitely have better odds against the cat Fred!

Poor Fred. Just not your day.

Fred needs to run in a direction perpendicular to the line between the two threats, otherwise he’ll be bouncing between the two points.

True, but he’s out numbered against the dogs!

I could handle the woofs. It’s the snarls that send me away. And from dogs, too.

Exit, stage left, may-be the cats & other dogs will run face to face with each other, both problems solved
