@ Stuart Ballin, if you’re here today….We got 2 calls last night at midnight on a cellphone we’ve given very few people the number for. The number onscreen was unknown to us. The second call I answered and snapped in angry English, “How did you get this number? Who gave it to you? Don’t call again, you hear me?” That stopped the calls, but not the giggles from my spouse who said I sounded like an enraged elderly Southern spinster, particularly the “you hear me” part. Thanks for reminding me that being trilingual has its purposes beyond business.
I’m probably in the minority on this but I’m really getting irritated that Calvin seems to be getting very wordy lately. Don’t get me wrong I still Love Calvin and Hobbs just don’t care for wordy comics. Just my personal pet peeve!
Worked in retail and did interviews. Told applicants they should have goals. Said I worked there because I never figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Stayed there many years waiting for opportunity to knock. Finally retired.
Thank you Calvin. All these years I’ve been struggling to make ends meet. According to you, they’ll meet with or without the struggle. Gotta find a tree to sit under so I can watch the “Calvin” magic work it’s wonders.
It’s more a matter of recognizing the opportunity when it shows up in the first place and then taking advantage of it….they never teach you how to do that in school, sadly….
I don’t know how many people have ever actually found the opportunity for fame and fortune simply by sitting under a tree doing nothing and just waiting for it to happen . . . but I do know that the opportunity to sit under a tree and doing nothing but enjoying a pretty day (either with or without a book) doesn’t come along too often for me so I like to take advantage and enjoy it whenever I can!
Calvin’s parents are sitting quietly in the couch; Dad is reading a book, Mom is doing her needlepoint. Calvin sees his opportunity: he points at them…“SHAZAM!!“Rats. Still there!”Dad: “Nice try. Go to bed, Calvin.”

Opportunity knocked one time, but I was waiting down at the pier.

Well I’m glad Calvin’s taking a passive approach to this. Change is not necessarily a good thing anyway.

All good things come to those who wait, but sometimes they come a little too late.

I thought Calvin was being totally out of character for the first two frames, but after that he didn’t fail to disappoint me.

We may wait for opportunity, but somehow it has a way of coming to those who are keeping busy.
