Go with the flow! Participants in the sport of volcano serving slide down steep volcanic slopes of ash and rock when a wooden plank at speeds up to 50 miles per hour! Chlorine gas converts moisture and a person's eyes, throat and lungs into acid! For that reason, it was widely used as a weapon during World War I. The Merry Cemetery of Sapanta, Romania, has hundreds of brightly painted grave markers illustrated with portraits and scenes from the lives of the deceased!

The sheer exilharation of mastering the challenge, and the adrenalin rush that accompanies it would be my best guess!

Terminal velocity for a falling human body is only 120 MPH. @gmartin97: “There is probably no pleasure equal to the pleasure of climbing a dangerous Alp; but it is a pleasure which is confined strictly to people who can find pleasure in it.” — Mark Twain @K.F.G.: There are places in Iceland where volcano surfing can be done, but you can’t get more than about a third of the way up the hill because the ash is so deep and loose that you can’t get more than about a quarter to a third of the way up the hill before you start slipping back two steps for every step forward. When I was there, they weren’t using boards, but without equipment it was possible to go up as high as you could ger, then sit down and slide to the bottom of the hill by the seat of your pants. Of course, you’d be brushing ash out of your clothes for a couple days…

The version I heard was that they opened the valve on a tank of chlorine, watched it drift across the line, and the wind shifted and “eliminated” hundreds of their own troops!

There should be merry cemetaries here in the U.S. Everyone has had their 15 minutes of fame. It’ll be great to see that on everyone’s grave.
