Executive: So, long story short, the process of elimination to simplify my life finally came down to a choice between my golf clubs and your job... The off-ramp on the road to enlightenment
hmm the guy at the desk missed the off ramp and crashed through the guard rail and proceeeded to head northbound on the southbound lanes of a very busy city street.
@Dogsniff It would have been better if Mr. Exec actually lit it. But seeing that it is a candle like Ebenezer Scrooge would use instead of a meditation candle, I think he’s sending a message to the underling.
Astute, you’ve named yourself well. I’ve been wondering about that candle all morning. Thank you. By Jove, I think you’ve got it! Oh, and kudos to Wiley….Dude’s good….
More like “Obama just raised my taxes, so I’ll have to let you go.” I know you all hate the rich, but your portrayals of them are ludicrous – a truly excellent example of non-sequitur, Wiley!
Clearly, it is the American worker’s fault for not meeting the expectations of Corporate America: rapacious profits for the upper crust, while workers toil in sweatshop conditions for near-slave wages, are exposed to hazardous chemicals, live in company owned housing, and can be roused at a moment’s notice for tea, a biscuit, and a 12 hour work shift before being permitted to return to their bunks and nightmares from which there is no escape. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/business/apple-america-and-a-squeezed-middle-class.html?pagewanted=all
I think the unemployment numbers are manipulated for the election. Ever try to talk to an actual “live” person on the phone at the unemployment office?
It’s always an off-ramp on the way to enlightenment when you choose your own materialiality and comforts over the well-being and means of earning a living of another human being…
Something very profound in this highly universal description. Oh Wiley…Thank you very much. You have enriched me with this.

And they’re really nice clubs, too. If you ask nicely, I’ll let you carry them in my next friendly with Branson and Gates.

You’ve been eliminated but there was a process.
Some days you hole a putt. Other days the putt holes you.

A true leader of industry must learn to prioritize. Most big deals get closed on the golf course, not in the office or on the work floor.
bluskies almost 13 years ago
He uses it to seal the deals. (They can’t all be gems; it’s almost 3:30 AM and I need my beauty sleep. Just ask my ex-wife.)

Might as well go OM and have a beer…OM, Om, on the range…

Either way, someone at the end of the meeting will know where the 19th hole is…Me thinks extinguished candle is Survivor Island reference.

He let his wife go earlier in the day. At least he thought a little before he let you go.

I’ve never understood golf, but I’ve always understood a job. I wonder what that says about me?
psychlady almost 13 years ago
Now that’s an interesting way to fire someone!!
LingeeWhiz almost 13 years ago
He must be firing his caddy. Fine, carry your own goll darned golf clubs. It’s that simple.

I think the guy looks a little teed off to me. The boss is certainly driving a wedge between management and workers.

The guy getting fired had one job to do. Light that candle. He failed. He gets fired.

Still, it’s important to thin the herd and to cull the sick and lame from the stock. Don’t want them overbreeding and getting into the sheep.
