gah, we never ever buy canned soup! make tons better soup ourselves. Real oxtail, mexican tomato, burrida, yum! Our kids would faint if we told them there’s canned soup for dinner!
Canned soup is abominable. I make everything from scratch and the result is that my kids detest canned soup.(What baffles me: those people who throw a can of salty soup in almost every meal and can’t seem to cook a meal without it. BLECCH! It isn’t sauce, it isn’t gravy, and it certainly isn’t going to improve the average crockpot meal to the point that it is actually appetizing.)
When I was a kid, my mom did this and none of us liked the homemade version. But now that I’m an adult, that canned junk is terrible and my kids would agree. If you eat a lot of salty food, then natural (unsalted) tastes bland, but if you eat a lot of natural food, then extra salted tastes vile. Bring on the homemade soup!
When I was young, my mother used to make thick, delicious french fries (more like steak fries) in her electric fry pan. Looking back, they were amazing; however, when I was a kid, I always believed they weren’t as good as the fries at McDonalds or Stuvers (local fast food place) because they weren’t the thin and crispy style. I really miss those fries now…
Personally, I like homeade foods as long as it is done right. Like soup, for example, don’t put everything but your boot in the chicken soup, just stick to chicken and a few veggies.
My wife and I love to cook. Making your own soup allows for some texture. Canned soups have every item cooked the same. I also have been checking ingredient labels for years. Almost every canned or boxed product comes loaded with sodium. The more such products that you use in a day the bigger chance you will end up having high blood pressure. Once you start using fresh vegetables and relying on home cooking, if someone serves you canned soup, all you taste is the salt.
My kids did the same thing! But I fooled them….I would put the food in a can, pretend to open it, and cook it. Worked wonders until they were in Middle School, thanks to the Science teacher! They are now married and do the same thing!!!
My kids loved my homemade beef-vegetable soup: the cabbage, potatoes, carrots, celery, and zucchini. Along with the broth made of tomato paste and the meat.
Would this be the same soup she burned while complaining to Anne about John accidentally throwing away all the kids’ summer clothes? Because if so, I don’t blame them for preferring the canned stuff over Elly’s version of “a genuine culinary treat” instead.

More fat, more salt, more sugar= more flavor. I like the canned crap better myself. Dinty Moore forever!

I’d gladly give everything I own for just one more hamburger made by my mother..I’d do it twice for one of her fried chicken Sunday dinners!

Lots of MSG in most canned soup — only they get out of listing it on the label because it’s included in other ingredients that they do list.

I make soup from scratch and eat it 3-5 nights a week, so far I get raves! (that’s what happens when you cook for yourself :))

My mom also made homemade soup. My dad and my brothers will always eat them, but not me.

At first reading, panel 1 made no sense – then I noticed the scourge of all cartoonists – the LI jammed together to look like a U.

We didn’t have McDonalds when I was young, so I thought all hamburgers were black and hard on the outside. My mother fried them on High.
