I just read Bueller’s re-cap on this on-going Christmas storyline… dunno why I missed it yesterday… walked out on and then left a widow… hard knocks by the sleighlful… no wonder poor mom hates the season so…

Poor Mr Deering too… every year he has to face this scenario… and get into the gloomy spirit of it probably sometime in early October… that is way too early to go all grinch green… I feel for the dude…

Jan, I think you’re depressing Mr Grumbine too!

Detour- I maintain that Jan is a complicated character ,though the magnitude of her flaws -interestingly- seem greater to some readers than they do to me.

I find it interesting, because I created the characters for this strip, on which I now collaborate with John Newcombe.

I draw it and Mr. Newcombe writes most of it, giving me more time to make my Strange Brew cartoon panel stranger.

On the overall story of the strip, please remember the reason Jan gets weird(er) at Christmas is the same reason for the basic backdrop of the whole thing ( the neccessity to rent out most of the house to a mixed bag of people). We focused a lot more on them until a couple of years ago, the strangest of them, by far, being Mr. Grumbine, whom we’ve never seen. Everyone talks to him through his closed, locked door. Carl is a decorated Vietnam Veteran, Vince is a part-time yoga instructor ( think Squidward from Spongebob), and Mr. and Mrs. Belmont are old enough to be original members of AARP.

Must have been a lesson you learned after you posted that lame little manifesto several days back, apparently in response to a rather mild semi-rebuke from Joe Allen Doty.
