And a paper kite in that shape…you’d have to make it yourself. These days all I can find are plastic Delta-shaped kites. They may fly “better” but they’re just not the same.
Memories: in my neighborhood, kite flying was a team project. we got all our change together and went to the store. Trees were bad, but telephone wires were worse.
A 6" by 2.5" by 1" Brown Mule was made with real vanilla beans and cost 10 cents. Regular stamps cost 5 cents, and air mail cost 10 cents.Things then were made to last. We’ve gained a lot, but we lost a lot too. It is good to know someone else remembers.
In 1969, the “bat” kits could be had for under a dollar, and a fancy plastic diamond kit was probably close to $0.79 at Long’s Drugs, so Charlie Brown may have had a very deluxe model, earlier in the sixties. Or perhaps his came with a full reel of kite string.
Several friends and I went on on a brace of box kites and a Hi-Flier reel – it held hundreds of feet of line, and two box kits on one line could just about lift a small kid. We re-papered them several times that summer, and went through miles of line (it would get caught in trees when the breeze dipped.)

79 cents for a kite. That’s why I read old comics and old comic strips. The past was cool.

It would be so hilarious if the second last panel, the tree said “Gulp!”.

You can always make your own paper kite. They fly pretty well once you get them airborne. They’re cheaper and make a nice tree snack.

Losing that hour of sleep really made you grumpy today. Oh wait, you’re always grumpy.

79 cents? My laptop doesn’t even have a key for “cents”! Nothing costs pennies anymore. If that makes cents to you.

Never fly a kite where there’s trees or telephone wires. Fly it in a field somewhere.

I’ve always believed that if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. Perhaps it’s a shame that you did.
Citizen Grog is never small minded or spiteful. One could learn from him you know.

The only way I can get the ¢ symbol is by going to the “special characters” drop down file on my laptop.

Maybe it’s extortion. You never know what a tree wants with $0.79, but if you leave a dollar bill including the finder’s fee…
