Typical…all that $$$$ and no clue. Must be inherited (wealth).

Sure, Barney’s got a clue. Snow is a central factor of Eskimo life, and therefore graced with distinct names for all its subtly (to us non-Eskimos) different variations. So, too, is refuse a central factor of life for the denizens of the street. Thus all the subtle variations of the detritus of modern urban life are graced with distinct names by the denizens of the street. Barney puts the clues together in the penultimate panel.

Actually, no. The Eskimos only have four words for snow- it’s a total myth that they have more. I learned this from QI (google it), I don’t know what episode.

and if you speak to a skier, they have tons of descriptions for the snow conditionsit’s like asking a wine taster if what a glass tastes like – i’d say grapey – i’d be wrong

This is so funny! Different people do create new and different .words. when I was a kid we called everything a “dealio”. ALbuquerque in the early 60’s.
