Like yesterday, this is part (middle far left) of a larger painting. Enlargement of this and the big picture pointed to by @Baslim the beggar available from here or here (which has details about the painting). Not sure which has more accurate color details, those or this (no companion enlargement). Third of 4 works by this artist that have, so far, also appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog.
Is it just me or do you think that the artists of old painted the stupidest paintings? I mean, sometimes i look at this strip and think “Why would someone paint a picture like this?” The brush strokes are good, the colors are beautiful, but a naked guy in a windblown cape by some cave? WTF?
Young Saint D*ckless, before he changed his name, due to PC Police… oh, ummm, that also appears to be Rudolph hanging above the cave entrance… after the reindeer games
Aphrodite/Venus was married to Haephestus/Vulcan, Blacksmith god to the Greeks/Romans. I think he is accusing her of infidelity with another.
Yeah, I miss mabrndt also so I don’t have to speculate until I break down and google artist name and date. But I did find out that this ahem, “inspired” Raphael for a fresco

Apparently (and I’ve heard women and medics say it) a lot of the smaller ones grow the most. Of course, they were talking about children.
