Why do you mention the president’s race?

The auto bailout didn’t work. We’ll never get back the money we sank into it (which also included about $14 billion to GMAC, now known as Ally Bank). The bailout did nothing that a normal Chapter 11 wouldn’t have done, except a normal Chapter 11 wouldn’t have saddled GM with some of the old union contracts. The main reason GM is profitable now is that they were allowed to re-write some of the most egregious contracts, but also because the Obama administration overturned a century of precedent and stole tens of billions of dollars from secured debt holders (like public sector pension plans) by forcing them to accept pennies on the dollar. But why would a liberal let facts get in the way?

When you run out of facts, use the “Race Card.”
