Am I reading this right? Apex sounds like a multi-national corporation up to very illegal practices in some of the nations in which it operated, Bordavia being an example. So in Wally’s world companies like Apex are so powerful they commit war and atrocities with impunity. Who cares what something so unimportant as a country thinks about it? So the war that ends the world as we know it was not between nations but between out-of-control conglomerates?
In Aaron’s world at the time before the end Apex seems to be operating as a Corporate State with Hillside as a major city. It seems now that Wally is an experienced soldier of that State as we suspected.I see real world analogies here.
I’m an early bird this morning because I have go to the eye doctor in nearby Dunwoody today and he going to squirt drops my eyes which means won’t be able to see anything until tomorrow. First I like to thank you posters for me giving that reference to this strip’s story arc being like that of “Dream Curse” arc in Dark Shadows . I appreciate that. Later.
Look back at the Sparkplug story. Apex was the weapons company Sparky worked for before the end, when he developed the Ameswoth technology. Apex took that ball and ran with it, weaponizing Amesworth radiaton into zero guns, Mark II mass disintegrators, and eventually zero bombs. These weapons were sold to the government of Hillside and, I suppose, anyone else who had the money. If Wally’s dream was a reflection of the past, it appears that Apex also provided paramilitary security teams as well as weapons. It would appear we are about to see some of that in action. We can imply from comments made early in the Sparkplug sequence, (Gordon says that because of his discovery, Sparky may have “won the war”) that the war with the “Eastern Alliance” was already in progress. Bordavia sounds like an “out of sight, out of mind” sort of third world country where the war may have being fought before it went global.
I get the feeling Endtown 2.0 has passed from the Introduction phase and that we are now seriously into Chapter 1 of the real story. Just when you start to think that you might be getting a handle on this world, Aaron shows us that there are still vast areas of white space on the map still to be filled in. We have barely crossed the threshold, it would seem…
WOW! Totally unexpected shift! Yes, it’s better to experience it with your own eyes that try to explain it. Aaron M is trying to help Wally come to terms with his past and maybe having Holly around will help him! Amazing job, Aaron!
This must confirm Wally was in the wars. For what end was the war fought for? of course he could be where he used to live. I’m glad they know it’s not real, but too real for comfort. I hope, since there is no sound, that nothing bad can happen. and will go well with Wally confronting his past. From some of the things he hinted at earlier, Marks may be going to help others to confront their pasts too. Like when he talked to Blackie and Linda.
With all the songs flying around, seems like at least one of them for this strip should come from Pink Floyd. Certainly “Time” could provide some amazing lead-in sounds…
Can someone please explain to me how to vote? When I go there it wants me to prove I’m human and I have to vote for one of the 3 cartoons shown. Then I never have seen another place to vote. I would have been voting like crazy, but it’s too confusing.

Easier for Holly to see Wally’s past than for him to describe it…. Do dittos tap into a local dominant mind to find their subject matter?
