Sometimes Smokey Stover was the best strip in the paper. Along with Dick Tracy and old school Gasoline Alley. And Peanuts. Steve Canyon was cool too.

Ahh, the return of the “Plasma TV.” It was pretty funny the first time, in what one of you correctly noted as being in a Smokey Stover sort of way. Somehow, it’s just not quite as hilarious the second time around.

I just read yesterday’s strip. Looks like there are a lot of pro Post Office people here. I had been, as well, until recently. It seems that in recent months, things have been a real mess. I send a lot of Priority boxes, but I’m going to have to jump ship and go to FedEx.

Priority means nothing lately. There’s no promise that it will take two days, and often it takes over a week. I’ve had three in the past month come back with “No Forwarding Address” stamped on them.

Guess what. The addresses were correct. They all went through the second time. One of them even got there in the two day time frame! So, do I get a refund? Heck, no! Not even one of those little apology scraps of paper, like when they shred your First Class mail and put it in a plastic bag (another all-too-common program lately).

Sorry…..I hadn’t planned to go on so long. I need SOMEBODY to b*tch and moan to about the pathetic USPS, and you guys were just in the right place at the right time.

@hausof7mau, Yes, Kitchen Sink published Steve Canyon collections covering the beginning (January, 1947) through April 7, 1958. I have all of them. (In fact, I have some with two copies that I will part with if someone would like them.) Checker is currently publishing a set, collecting a year in each volume. Their strips are smaller size than the Kitchen Sink strips. I think someone else is publishing a collection with Sundays in color. Amazon has the Checker books. Milton Caniff, Frank Robbins, and Alex Raymond set the standard for the adventure strip. Of course you have to add Hal Foster as artist for Prince Valiant, which still is the best for Sunday there is.

I understand the Smokey Stover reference, for sure. However, for me today’s strip has an almost “psychedelic” aspect to it that seems stronger to me than the “Stover” reference.

@ Stagger Lee: There is no complete collection that I am aware of. The Checker series is up to 1955, at least. The Kitchen Sink series stopped at 1958. The newer IDW series that Redhead55 mentioned has the first two years and that is the one I mentioned that has the Sundays in color.
