It took my mom a few years to realize, ( while trying to figure out when to serve Sunday dinner), that the last five minutes in a football game are not the same as the next five minutes…
What game would have 3 tenths of a second? I know that many races are timed to hundredths and even thousandths. BTW, I have a hard time getting my head around the fact you can actually measure a thousandth of a second, much less a nano second….
Hockey games have been decided so close to zero that they had to run replays to see if the puck crossed the line before the clock ran out. In basketball, I believe they just have to throw the ball before the zero moment; I’m sure they have had replays to see if the ball left the fingers in time.
They shouldn’t stop the clock for any reason. That would get the dang things overwith sooner so they could go back to whatever show was being preempted.

Tenths of a second are counted and shown in the last minute of a basketball game.

Baseball, on the other hand, is timeless, or at least clockless.

All basketball games sould start with a 100-100 tie and two minutes left on the clock. It would really speed things up.

Golf is not clockless. If you fail to keep up a set rate of play you will be penalized.
