as a child prodigy, i was obligated to attend recitals along with my peers. and yes, i saw my life flush away, etc, when i was forced (along with everyone else) to endure some talentless rich brat’s virtuoso accordion polka performance. i was stunned that anyone could do something like that without being accutely embarrassed.
