B.D.: This can't possibly be right... SAM! Sam! There are 17,000 texts on our pohne bill! 17,000! Sam: 17,000? Oh, my God, Dad, seriously, that's all? B.D.: What do you mean, that's all? Sam: Dad, all the popular girls exchange at least 30,000 texts a month! I can't believe this... I'm just a Nancy Nobody! Everyone hates me! Thanks for the reality check, Dad! B.D.: Oh... sorry, honey. I didn't know. Sam: That was close. Boopsie: Next time I'm busting you. Go do your homework.

GT is spending the week following the Yankees-Red Sox.

I am OK with Mr. Trudeau’s frequent vacations, as long as it keeps him from going Larson/Watterson on us.

Boopsie is acting like a mother.
So how many texts does she have?

Doing the math: Assuming a 30-days month and a 16-hours day (Sam, the growing girl she is, needs her hours of sleep, plus some time for other functions,) to do 17,000 texts Sam would have to average sending a text every two minutes, non-stop. I would think she would have to take a break occasionally just to recharge the texting devise she’s using.`17,000 texts a month – I really don’t think anyone has that much of worth to say.

Literacy made manual. Highly corralled, language simplified. Soon people will figure out that there’s only Yes, No, and Wow…and women will talk more and more like men.

With the newer smart phones text messaging has an autocorrect feature built in, which messes up big time frequently. If you want to see some funny text messages go to http://www.damnyouautocorrect.com.

We have 5 lines on our family plan and unlimited texting for $30 a month. Unfortunately, some people do not want to be disturbed by a phone call and a text is the only way to reach them.

I don’t text because the keys are too small…..my PC and laptop both have full sized keyboards and I’m always hitting the wrong one…`

I take offense at the daughter’s comment ‘Oh my god, Dad,’ because it offends my Christian faith. We regard this as blasphemy. Please avoid offending us in the future. Thanks.

I guess that’s the current plan for computing in future: Dumb everybody down to the Tweet/Twit level.`George Orwell addressed this issue in his novel 1984 (written in 1948.) He called the new verbiage “Newspeak.”

Nancy Nobody, I know the feeling.

Like Johnny Carson or any other public figure with a long-running gig that doesn’t allow for much time off, GT probably negotiates his breaks into his contract(s). When money is no longer much of a problem, time with family and friends can be much more valuable. I don’t begrudge GT his time off; he’s earned it, though I do miss new toons.

This is a good repeat. Nice way to psych out the dad.

As to autocorrect, when I start using a new unfamiliar word processing package, which dares to think it knows spelling and grammar better than I do, I just hunt thru the menus to find the options to turn off these features.

Agree — it’s almost not worth it. I can write it out long hand in less time than it takes to format (or make it stop formatting).

And as my parents said to me in the late ‘60s, "we’re turning over our country to you guys!?"

I think this was done earlier with Mike and Alex… maybe not texting, it may have been before that became popular, but something…

Clearly, Sam has done her homework.
