Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.
The twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac (Year of the Horse, Rat, etc.) are the twelve animals who acknowledged the divinity of the Buddha. There’s no Year of the Cat because cats know they’re gods, and they don’t want to share the glory.
While I was reading this comic, I had to get up and go to the kitchen to give The Cat a drink of water. He won’t drink water that’s been sitting in his bowl. He has to have it fresh from the tap. In a glass.
Well, I think that Alan Watts has it right when he says “reality is what exists without effort”. Meaning, keeping it simple alters reality the least. Cats can be made to do what you suggest, gmartin997, but it feels to be such a departure from reality that it offends. Dogs, on the other hand, almost push you to create parameters for them. They seem to say “whatever, dude, I’m up for it – just let’s go already” meaning a change of reality for them matters little. Everybody, dogs, cats, us – stay real.

If we ignore it, it will go away and peddle its vitriol elsewhere.
