I love how people twist comics into unrelated posts on their particular political axes-to-grind, based on the gossip they hear around watercoolers and from talking heads on TV who make up whatever they think will stir up controversy – education is one of those topics that (typically older commentators) like to express their supposed superiority over younger generations by putting down the supposed quality of the education younger people receive. It’s not an assertion that actually stands up to much scrutiny – high school graduation rates, and the bar to make it there have risen steadily over the years and decades, and today’s high school seniors cover material their parents took in first or second year university.
Cars are lot better today than in the 60’s – and so is the education youth receive. But some people insist on looking to the past for those supposed glory days – usually the days of their own youth. Every generation does this, going back to the ancient Greeks, bemoaning the quality and learning of young people- and generally is wrong. If they weren’t, most of us would still be living in mud huts and eaking out a living by subsistance farming.

I thought Betty, Alex and that old gal who wore the high-heels all worked in a donut shop or something…
