Can someone tell if it’s okay to feed a dog cream cheese… or dairy for that matter? I never owned a dog. Much thanks.

Most dogs can handle dairy products in small quantities, but some are lactose intollerant. My vet actually recommended I feed my Great Dane small amounts of plain lowfat yogurt.

I’ve never met a dog that didn’t love cheese!

I used to take beef jerky and fillet it, placing my dog’s pill between the sides and she ate it down just fine. Have to have a sharp knife and a steady hand, though.

hawgowar: How do you fillet beef jerkey? I just break it off and crack the muscle fibers apart.

Take a chunk of hot dog; stick it inside of that; I don’t know of any dog that can refuse hot dog.

Now, feeding Cagney all the cream cheese has made his arteries clog even more and the heart pills lie all over the floor!!!

No more cream cheese until you take your medicine!

I had to give up hiding pills in food cause they would always just eat around it. I do the old fashion thing. Open their mouth and put it in.

Have dog sit in the heel position on your left, (on your right if you are left handed); using your thumb and forefinger, place behind upper canine teeth, with pill in other hand, place a finger on lower jaw and open mouth; place pill at back of throat, close mouth, hold dog’s head in up position, massaging throat until dog swallows. After several times doing this, just using your forefinger behind one canine tooth will signal dog to open mouth. Unless you have a really stubborn dog. This method worked for me when one of my dogs had to have medication for the rest of her life and got to be routine every morning.

But that still means sticking your fingers into his throat, right? That’s the part I hate.

Liverwurst works pretty well and the dogs love it.

i hide it in chunky peanut butter. But I also give my dogs peanut butter at various times without pills a sort of training. When there is a pill in there I get them so excited and rev’d up about the treat they never notice the pill.
